Lib Dems: storming or norming? Lembit Öpik makes an appeal for courage in an environment which he believes favours the pursuit of mediocrity

Believe it or not but I'm not someone who seeks out danger for its own sake. All the same, but I've had my fair share of near misses. In 1971 I nearly died when I fell out of a tree onto a post. In the 1980's I fell off my motorbike a few times and wrote off a car - mainly thanks to my own inadequacies as a driver. And in 1998 I broke my back in 12 places in a dreadful accident. I didn't intend any of the above to occur. But it did occur and I'm still here. And when these things happened, I wasn't afraid at the time. I just dealt with it.
